Cover of the Little Church Bat book featuring a watercolour of bats at Braunston church

We're incredibly happy to have published our first ever children's book, The Little Church Bat!

Written by our wonderful engagement officers Rose Riddell and Diana Spencer and beautifully illustrated by Chris Shields, The Little Church Bat tells the story of Mo the bat who lives with her friends inside the chimney of an old tumbledown cottage on the edge of a village.

When the cottage is knocked down, Mo and her friends take shelter in an old church, but their presence causes cleaning problems for Bob the churchwarden so he calls on a local ecologist and church architect for help.....The story was inspired by the real-life case of All Saints, a Grade II listed 12th century church in Braunston-in-Rutland and a Bats in Churches flagship project.

The book is a lovely gift for anyone interested in bats, or churches, and tells the story of our work and how churches and bats can live in harmony alongside each other.

You can buy individual copies of the book online at Waterstones and other online retailers.

All profits from our print sales go to the Churches Conservation Trust

We may be able to provide multiple copies at cost price to churches, bookshops, bat groups etc for you to sell on for your own fundraising. Please contact us at batsinchurchespartnership@gmail.com to find out more.
