The Church
Field Dalling sits in a meadow churchyard on the edge of the village.
There is an array of medieval stained glass, showing saints, prophets and apostles, much of which is in its original position in the south windows.
The north aisle still has its Georgian box pews.
During recent alterations the church uncovered a striking wall painting of birds in trees. The painted birds match some scratched graffiti on one of the piers- a slightly bored member of the congregation copying them perhaps..?
The church has a small but active congregation and is always busy at Harvest, Remembrance, the annual pet service and other major events. The church also hosts regular concerts. It has been very well supported by the local community who were very generous with their time and funds to help clean up after the recent lead theft.
Our Work
Field Dalling has a colony of around 50 Common and Soprano Pipistrelles in the south aisle. The church are installing a rafter box as part of the repairs after a lead theft. The project has funded a monitoring camera for the box to make sure it is being used.
We had also provided a set of matching oilcloth pew, alter and organ seat covers which have replaced the blue plastic tarpaulin the church previously used. The covers help to protect the pews and are easy to clean while also looking much more appropriate in this historic and peaceful interior.
In summer 2023 the Norfolk Bats in Churches project led a bat walks at the church and will continue to provide help and support.
Our Heritage Advisor has also provided specialist help and cleaning advice for the church and a cleaning kit to help them maintain the church interior.
